Chojun Miyagi
The Grand Master Chojun Miyagi was born April 25, 1888. In 1899, when he was eleven years old, his mother asked a famous master Tudi-jutsu (as in the old days was called Karate), Chojun Ryuko Aragaki take an apprentice. In the dojo R. Aragaki young Miyagi mainly engaged in strengthening his body and worked with makiwara, tisi, nigirigame and other devices. He began studying karate at Higaonna at the age of 14 years in 1902. Master K. Higaonna introduced the young Miyagi Ryuko Aragaki. They say that training in the dojo Higaonna otlichaois severity, so many of those who came, leaving the master and went to the other. Like his teacher before him, thanks to his great natural talent and dogged determination, he progressed very quickly. Training time were just incredibly intense, but it intensifies their passion, incomparable to anyone else. Through the pain and fatigue Miyagi visited tranirovki. In the mornings, the way to school he made a run, but other than that often went to sea, where the exercise. Performing Sanchin - kata, he tried to drown the noise of the surf force of his breath. After training with Master Higaonna, he was tired so that he could not climb the stairs to the second floor where his room. Therefore, often he had to sleep in the hallway on the floor ... Chojun Miyagi became "uchi deshi" (private disciple) Higaonna, who was involved with his student for 14 years, until his death in 1915. Chojun Miyagi, the successor of Naha-te, bring themselves to the limits of endurance in his quest to achieve the extraordinary skill of his teacher. With this purpose in the same (1915) year, he went to China, Fuzhou City, where he studied martial arts teacher to continue his research. It was one of his three trips to China during his lifetime. Upon his return to Okinawa he began to teach martial arts at his home in Naha. Later, he also taught at the training center of the Okinawa Prefectural Police, the college training of masters of Okinawa and Nago Commercial High School (where he once taught his teacher). Several times he had to demonstrate their skills in public. Demonstration performances were held at the request of the newspaper "Asahi Shimbun, and are but a demonstration of kata and bunkai-jutsu, Miyagi showed such" tricks "such as his hands tore to pieces a large piece of raw meat, blow nukite (fingertips) samples dense bundle of bamboo sticks and clenched his fist, pulled one of them stripped bare hands with a living tree bark. However, C. Miyagi did not like to do exhibition performances, stressing that the military has nothing to do with the show. Chojun Miyagi persistently zanimlsya spread of karate in Okinawa and mainland Japan, to win the Naga-cho, status, equal status of the martial arts of judo and kendo. For this, he often traveled to mainland Japan, where he was invited to teach karate at the University of Kyoto, Kansai University, and Ritts Kai Kan. In 1933 karate was registered in Butoku Kai, the center of all martial arts in Japan. It was a milestone for karate as it means that it is recognized on a par with the highly respected martial arts of Japan. Chojun Miyagi dedicated his whole life in karate. He was responsible for the conversion of Naha-te (which he later renamed Goju-Ryu) into a systematic discipline, which can be taught to society in general. Formed their training system allowed to teach karate in schools for the benefit of young people and cover a wide range of the population worldwide. However, he retained a private education at home, following the principles and traditions of his teacher Higaonna and teacher of his teacher, Ryu Ryu Ko. Name of Goju-Ryu was found accidentally rather than intentionally. In 1930, the best student Chojun Miyagi - Jinan Shinzato in Tokyo, responding to numerous questions from the martial arts masters, was asked what school of martial arts he practices. As Naha-te had no formal name he could not answer these questions. Upon returning to Okinawa, he told about this case Chojun Miyagi. Heavily on reflection, Chojun Miyagi decided to stay on the name Goju-Ryu (School of hardness and softness) for his style. This name he took from a line in Bubishi (classic Chinese book on martial arts and other subjects). This line occurs in a poem describing the eight precepts of martial arts, says: "Ho Goju Donte '(the way of inhalation and exhalation - is hardness and softness). C. Miyagi mentioned in training the value of harmony between the two extremes: hard and soft, cold and hot, fast and slow, etc. The development of Goju-Ryu Jinan Shinzato, exceptionally talented student and the only one Chojun Miyagi chose as his successor, was tragically killed during the Second World War. Later after the war, Chojun Miyagi chose as a successor Anichi Miyagi Sensei to train the next generation of Goju-Ryu. C. Miyagi, of course, was a great teacher. He vzrostil a galaxy of outstanding masters of karate, now known around the world. This - Gauguin Yamaguchi (founder of the direction Godzyukay) Eighty Miyadzato (Dzyundokan) Meytoku Yaga (meybukan), Eiko Miyadzato (Koho-Ryu), Sogen Sakiyama, Genkay nakaima, Cosin Iha, Kae Madanbasi. Chojun Miyagi died on October 8, 1953, leaving behind a great heritage. He predicted that in the XX Century Karate spread throughout the world. Today we can see that the predicted has come true: Karate is practiced not only in Japan but also in other countries. Karate can no longer be called a martial art of Okinawa or Japan, it has become an art without borders, art for all nations and peoples of the world.
