IOGKF Kherson
Kherson Regional Federation of the Traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do was established in 1999. The federation is a collective member of IOGKF (chief instructor is Morio Higaonna 10th dan). The official representative of IOGKF on the territory of Ukraine is Denis Vladimirovich Vasilchuk 4th dan. Since 2000 KhOFTOGK is headed by Artem Nikolaevich Yakovlev 2th dan. Every year the federation organizes open tournaments (complete contact) where the sportsmen of different styles and directions take part. The holding of tournaments is just a small part in the traditional system study. The basis of Goju-Ryu consists of the trainings in general and individual groups: working off the techniques of the real fight and upbringing of moral qualities on the basis of philosophy of east martial arts. That is why the age of the people who learn the traditional system of Goju-Ryu in groups is unlimited. Due to this, the number of members has increased to 100 persons in the age from 5 to 53. Every summer federation organizes training health camps on the Black sea coasts of Kherson region and also in the autonomous republic of the Crimea. Sportsmen can combine trainings under the sky with some rest and communication with friends there. Recently the federation has got its own training gym. Thanks to the efforts of the members it transformed from the dwelling-house basement to the apartment with 2 locker rooms and 2 gyms on 80 sq.m. and 40 sq.m. The larger gym is equipped with the mirrors, makiwaras, "wooden man", paws, tisis, nigirigami, kono-ken, isi-sasi that helps to hold the trainings at the higher level. There is also the section of East dances for women that works in the gym.
